Stanford researchers at the Paulraj Lab have patented the adaptive sectored antenna (ASA) system which can be used to enhance range coverage and Erlang capacity in a wireless network. ASA can be implemented at the receiver of a base station and/or mobile subscriber unit in a wireless network. Adaptive sectored antennas are an enhancement to switched beam systems, which are currently deployed in wireless macrocellular networks.
