Organic compounds that inhibit or activate store operated calcium channels

Abstract


Stanford researchers have identified several novel compounds that inhibit store operated calcium influx and prevent expression of proinflammatory genes. Store operated calcium channels play central roles in a variety of cells, including T and B lymphocytes, mast cells, platelets and skin cells. They are critical for the activation of immune cells and are key targets for drug discovery.

Stage of Research
The innovators have extensively characterized these compounds and developed a variety of simple assays that can be used to improve these compounds further.

Advantages


  • Novel - may provide a new or additional therapeutic for the abovementioned disorders. There are currently no specific blockers for Orai or Stim – the two proteins comprising these calcium channels - on the market
